Charybdis is the sound of going down with your ship. It's meant to be played loud, so loud it shakes your house and creates a black hole that sucks you in and never spits you back out. But it's ok to listen to it quieter than that, if your neighborhood association has a "No black holes" ordinance.

Fair warning: it's a noise track. Better than Merzbow, but a noise track nonetheless. Some of you might be disinclined to call it music at all; I wouldn't necessarily argue, but I can't come up with a better word for it. You wouldn't want me to call it an "auditory experience," or abstract immersive narration," would you?

Going down with your ship is the end. It is one of the ways you could possibly die, and if it contains dignity, it also contains terror.

But with endings come new beginnings, and that brings us to the B-side. Unfamiliar Shores has to do with starting out somewhere new, doing something different, forgetting your past and forgetting that you've forgotten it. In a sense, it's about surviving death--but it's not a promise of paradise. It's a time of bewilderment, but also of great liberty and simplicity. All that may sound heady for such a simple track, but part of the joy of new beginnings is that things haven't yet gotten complicated.
